The Catholic Church throughout the centuries has faithfully fulfilled the mandate that Jesus Himself gave to bring His message to all nations (Matthew 28:19-20: “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”). How Many Countries Are There in the World?
There are several ways to count the countries and territories in the world. Today, according to the UN, there are 193 countries and 2 observer states: Palestine and Vatican City. According to the CIA, there are 237 entities, which includes the 195 recognized by the UN, and 42 dependent territories or special sovereignty areas. According to the standard of the International Standards Organization (ISO) 3166-1, there are 249 recognized entities among countries and territories. This set includes sovereign states, dependencies with a high degree of autonomy, and other geographical regions with their own code in the official list. This last one is the one we use.
We are proud to say that Catholic Mass Times now covers all these entities (except for 3 which are uninhabited islands), consolidating its position as the most comprehensive and accessible platform for finding masses worldwide!
